I need ideas for landscaping a hillside other than covering it in vines.?

Question:

Answers:
depends on how much you're willing to spend.

you could do a waterfall (expensive), stairs w/ flowerbeds on either side, or (my neighbors do this, it's awesome) you could cut into the hillside and make stairs out of that and plant whatever you want on every row.

ok, all of these ideas are expensive. hope i was helpful!

build short retaining walls and create terraced garden beds..

this is a site about low growing shrubs.they add color and coverage

wonderful for hillsides or just large areas that need coverage

you can find them @ large stores like Walmart or Kmart or even Lowes and Home Depot, as well as your local green houses.
You could also go to http://www.1800topsoil.com to speak to a local landscaper. These guys at http://www.1800topsoil.com are national and I used them in two states. See if you like them. Good luck!
Landscaping a slope or hillside can be quite a challenge for most homeowners.
Usable space is generally accomplished through terracing and creative ideas. Using plants or rocks. Here's a web site that might be able to help:

Good Luck With this, Sounds like a big job.
I have a hill that is bothersome also and I am going to spread wildflower seeds on the hill next year. Could be an idea. I have a small hill in my backyard and through a place in my area is called Freecycle through yahoo groups and I am making a waterfall area with an old sink and tub. I kept the sink above the ground and sinking the tub into the low point, but not too close to the road. Then placing the black landscaping material for no weeds, which I got for $4 at Big Lots, and putting mulch on top of that. I might add some plants that I got a really good deal on at Lowes, $ clearance area from $.25 to $1. If you get what you are looking for from freecycle, then you can do this to look nice, but cheap. I have spent around $40 for the whole area, because of buying mulch, plants, (which in some cases you can get off of freecycle also), and the landscaping for no weeds. Oh, I got all of the rocks for the area free also from a construction site.
Add a pump and a few feeder goldfish and you have a wonderful little area.
There is also a place on the internet called Garden Junk
Terrace it using old railroad ties (sometimes you can get them free) and buy a bunch of those boxes of mixed wild flowers. Then let nature do her thing. If you want flowers taht come back every year, a hillside full of peonies sounds good to me.
