Broken concrete in the vegetable garden. Safe?

Question:Does broken concrete give off any chemicals that can get into the soil and if so, is it harmful?

Answers:
The most it would give off would be trace amounts of lime and that's not going to hurt anything. It's chemically inactive once it's dried and cured.

I have read that planting next to a concrete foundation is not good for plants. I never had good luck doing this, so I think there is some truth to it. New plants and shrubs very close to the foundation never lasted for me.
The concrete would absorb heat from the sun, which in turn can dry out the soil and burn the roots.

If you can, remove it.
You have nothing to worry about.
