Question:I have one lone better boy tomato plant in my backyard and about a dozen or so leaves on the bottom of the plant are turning yellow. Is this natural or is it something else. When I planted it I used miracle gro soil and then about a week later I stuck some jobes fertilizer stakes in the ground like the intructions say to do.

Answers:
the bottom leaves usually do turn yellow.trim them off if you want.water and fertilize.there is nothing wrong with your plant.

Did you spray any weedkiller near it?

I heard it might be natural, but it could be weedkiller.
Is the plant a bit stunted? or maybe the leaves have circular, dark brown to black spots?
Root nematodes or Alternaria leaf spot or early blight come with yellowing leaves but there are always further symptoms.
Look for spider mites. Examine the underside of the leaves for small red to greenish mites. If mites are found, treat with sulfur dust. Make two to three applications at 5-day intervals for best results.
Try putting more dirt up and over the leaves that are discolored and make sure that the dirt is packed down very firmly or air can get to it and kill it this way. You can cover a tomato plant up with dirt all the way just so the top is out of the ground. This helps it grow sturdier and every leaf branch under the dirt will grow roots also so it can thrive better.
