How do you make your lawn green?

Question:

Answers:
Fertilizer. You should water a reasonable amount, but don't overwater. We knew some people who decided that their grass wasn't green enough. They apparantly did not want to apply fertilizer, but watered and watered. They watered so much, but because they did not add any fertilizer, the water had little effect, other than rotting the roots. (The grass actually began yellowing.) We usually fertilize about every holiday, for example: weather-dependant, Easter, Memorial Day, Mother's Day, etc. The frequency and amount would depend a lot upon the climate you are in, amount of rain and other factors. We live in Michigan and use the generic brand of fertilizer and use it stronger than package directions. A good way to decide how you would need to fertilize would be to try a couple of swipes in some inconspicous place that gets the amount of sun and water most of the rest of the lawn gets. Try your spreader at various rates. Make sure that if you have it too strong and the grass turns yellow, you won't have a catastrophe on your hands. Then wait a week or so, making sure that you either water perhaps 3 times, or it has rained once or twice. You would not want your whole lawn to burn up if your grass or something else is different, under stress, too hot, too dry, different fertilizer, etc. It is always safest, to apply according to manufacturer's directions, of course - we have just taken a risk in higher amounts. Another thought: a highly fertilized lawn grows much faster, and thereby requires more mowing, sometimes even twice a week.

with the proper sunlight and fertilizer, that should do the work. water your lawn in the morning with alight mist. try not to water on a very sunny day or when the sunlight is directly on the grass. this causes a steaming effect on the grass. I installed in ground sprinklers a cheap home made design i came up with. water the grass early and make sure the soil is good also. may need to ad lime to balance the soils PH.
