Problem with roses?

Question:I have about 100 rose bushs that I planted them 8 months ago, this growing season the flowers turned small and the leafs dont look healty, one biggest problem is "carpenter bees" they cut off all the new grown leafs take it somewhere making nest... and I heard that they only live in my area ( CA 92240 desert hot springs) What should I do to grow healty roses?

Answers:
Roses like acidic soil. The small leaves and flowers could mean you need to suppliment with nitrogen and phosphorus. Also, a newly established plant really needs to put all it's effort into developing a root system, so as painful as it may be, you should trim them back. This way the plant will focus on establishing itself instead of putting it's energy into reproduction.

The bees...we have those busy bees too. They are eating my house here and there. You could try covering the plants with a netting.

Also, there is a thing called companion planting...roses happen to love garlic...you could plant that in between them. You could also hope that the bees do not like the garlic.
