Make sure you tip out any water that may be sitting around your house in pots, tyres, anything like that so they can't breed. But the best way to keep them off you without nasty spary or cream products, is Detol and Baby oil mixed together. Trust me, i live in mozzie country ;)
Some Garlic, Olive Oil, and just a pat of Butter.
I sell Avon and they have a line called Skin So Soft. They added a bug repelant to it for the summer and people rave about it! Many people do hiking trips and camp outs during the summer so this sells fast! You should try it!
I have three ponds in the backyard and a herd of bull frogs who keep all the bugs, and every single mosquito out of the yard, just need to have a big tank for then when it gets cold out.
Avon's skin so soft is wonderfull in the summer.
I'm not a professional, but to get rid of the source is probably the best. If you live near a delta, or any other water source, then get a really good repellent. Make sure you have no standing water anywhere outside, and ask your neighbors to do the same. Also remember that your pets are just as likely to get mosquito bites as you are. Other than that, staying indoors right at sunset and after is truly helpful. Good Luck
spray ur yard and house exterior with "bug-b-gone".. use the one that attaches to ur garden hose and spray! it'll keep em away!
Mow, weed wack, and tidy up your property within an inch of its life. Make sure there is no water sitting in old buckets or tires and dump it out if you find any. This keeps the breeding on your property down. Ask your neighbors to do the same! Get a natural bug repellent such as neem or citronella for body and area for outdoor entertaining. Stay indoors in key mosquito times-dusk to dawn. The day is too hot and dry for them and the wind keeps them grounded so plan around them. Othewise watch the news for hot breeding times and use caution!
1) Skin So Soft and citronella lotions do nothing. I gave some away yesterday. If it doesn't have deet in it, it doesn't work for me at all! The army even did some tests - a man had to stick his hand in traps FULL of them w/ different sprays/lotions each time - only the deet deterred.
2) Get rid of all standing water. OR, toss a mosquito pellet in there. You can buy them at a home improvement store - they break up the mosquito life cycle in the water.
3) From experience - get rid of dog poop!
4) I don't think citronella candles/torches do anything, but they're pretty.
5) Like someone said, get the spray that connects to the hose, and wipe your yard down. Mosquitoes don't travel very far. Now, by spraying the yard, you're also killing other bugs, too. My friend from Audubon gets horrified and tells me how this, in turn, kills the birds - they eat the poisoned bugs before the bugs die. BUT, the mosquitoes are sooooo bad here in the south that I end up spraying anyway!
