When and how often is the best time to water my lawn? i currently do it every other day 40 min.each area?

Question:dont know if morning or afternoon is better.is there any such thing as too much watering ?

Answers:
Early morning is the best time. It will minimize evaporation, and maximize your water. It also allows the foliage to dry, decreasing disease prevelance. Any time after noon will increase the chance of scorch, and any time after evening increases your chance of disease. I would purchase a rain gauge and place it in the location you are watering at the time. An average lawn needs about an inch of water per week. Split up your waterings per section so that each section receives 1 inch of water over the course of the week. Good luck!!

your doing the right thing keep doing that and your grass will do great!
1. best time - mornings
2. how often - once a week until the ground has absorbed about an inch of water. You want to water less frequently, but more deeply. This encourages stronger root systems, otherwise your roots will stay near the surface and spread out laterally, making them more susceptible to instant death when the heat and drought arrives.
3. yes, there is such a thing as too much watering.
It sounds like you have the timing right, but I would do it in the evening. If you water your lawn and it gets hots, I have heard the water can "steam" your lawn as the sun hits it and heats it up.
We water ours early in the morning for about 15 min. each section. You can watch your grass/garden and will be able to tell if you need to up it a little. And do it every other day. Depending on how hot it is.. If your city starts rationing it. Then I would do it in the middle of the night to keep people from complaining...You might get a fine..
Depending on where you live, the midwest needs an inch a week, to be done all on the same evening so it don't evaporate. Just doing a little every day will just evporate and not get the roots where it is needed.
Many gardeners say early morning, so that the sun/daylight has to time to dry the leaves, so they won't be easily damaged and won't encourage pests. I usually like to water my grass and flower beds, in the early evening. I haven't had any problems with pests. Forty five mins to an hour is what I do.
Early morning just before sunrise. That way the water won't sit on the grass and promote diseases. 40 minutes sounds excessive. I run my sprinklers for twenty minutes twice a week. You are using too much water.
