How long hardening.?
Question:how long do i have to harden plants off before planting in ground.
Answers:
Depends on the plants - but introduction over about a week to the cooler atmosphere outside is usually about right - if it gets cold though once they are out (sudden sharp frost) get some fleece over them!
Hi Lindsey, If you are bringing them out of a greenhouse and if you don't have a cold frame , start by leaving greenhouse door open during day and closed at night. After a couple of days, if weather is favourable, bring them outside and put in a sheltered situation. Watch forecast and if not too cold or windy leave out at night. It's just a case of gradually acclimatising them to the change in temperature. Aim to be planting out around the first week in June. Cheers Pendelli
You will also need to be careful of sunshine if you started your plants inside under lights. Keep them in the shade or cover them with garden fleece to keep the sun from burning the leaves. Gradually increase the amount of direct sunlight they receive.
