What is the best way to attract frogs to my pond?
Question:We just put in a modest 155 gallon pond, and we have 5 goldfish for now but I'd also like frogs. Any tips to attract them? Thanks!

Water and perimeter plants that provide cover and shelter will help.
Dense foliage seems to attract insects, which frogs eat.
Frogs, like most amphibians, are sensitive to water quality so keep your pond water clean.
Put screens over your pump intake to prevent eggs and tadpoles from being swept up.
Your fish may be a problem. Fish will eat eggs and tadpoles, so you may have a problem keeping a breeding population of frogs in your pond.

Bring in other frogs and keep the cats away.
you won't have to worry about attracting them , they will find the water......we have been adopted by a bull frog who found his way to our pond..he has been with us now for 4 years and returns year after year..actually he lives in the pond and comes out sometimes during the day to sun himself in one of my plants.and he is very tame ...we have actually been able to go right up to him
This is absurd. You have goldfish/koa in your pond and you want to invite vermin and insect?
Set-up all night lighting of your pond to retard the imposition of both vermin (racoons, poosum, etc), and lizards or frogs. One chases the other. The fish will die of Algae, lack of oxygen, or chemical if left alone. You are asking for an earlier death by nature..
Make sure you feed your fish by solid pellet formula long before sunset. Best time is Early Day. This reduces the very risk of the Chipmunks, Racoons, Possum, Skunks, to visit. Frogs will be an added treat don't you think!
jerry g is absurd. I have bull frogs, comets, and fantails. If you do not have a large source of water near you there are no frogs to attract. Find a local pond person, or go to Pet Supplies Plus. They both have polliwogs for sale. If you don't purchase polliwogs, and get adults, they will not stay. I have 7 who have lived with me for 3 years. I scoop up the eggs I get and give them to friends for their ponds.
