Does anyone know how you replant bamboo?

Question:I have tried to dig it up and move it to another place and it seems to just die.
Is there anything special that you need to do?
I want to grow it for privacy, also I just love how it looks.

Answers:
Well honestly I have dug and transplanted dozens of bamboos and almost all of them have survived. Depending on what type of bamboo you are digging can and will determine how you need to dig. Combine that with the care it receives after transplant and you will see a big difference in survival rate.

Here's what I do:

If it's a runner, pick out a culm or two that are mature (NOT this years new shoots), then dig a circle around them about 6 inches away from the culm.

If it's a clumper, follow the same procedure if it is an open clumper such as Oldhammi. For tight clumpers like a Multiplex variety pick out a couple then dig/saw/chop your way around them as much as you can.

For both kinds this ensures you will get enough root/rhizome mass for survival. Once out of the ground, IMMEDIATELY wrap in plastic or place in plastic bags and water. Bamboo roots dry our quickly when exposed to the air and if left exposed too long will reduce the chance of survival.

Once your bamboo has been transported and placed in it's new home, water every day for the first week then every other day for the second week. After that, water like you would normally water any other plant.

Remember bamboo is a grass and loves water and fertilizer. After about a month you can start applying a high Nitrogen fertilizer monthly, then stop fertilizing around Sep/Oct time frame.

Also, if after you transplant your bamboo it seems to be on the downswing, it could be because you did not get enough root mass to sustain the existing growth. It is then recommended that you cut off the top half of the culm. This most of the time will ensure survival of the new transplant.

it is difficult to replant a bamboo,it requires difficult bolling procedure. One of the solution to your problem is to grow a new bamboo plant where you want it.
