How do you get Bats to come to your yard?
Question:I have a neighborhood that bats would relish if they would just come. Lots of trees, bugs galore. and lots of dusk to dawn lights making there hunting easy. But how do I get them here? I want to build bat houses but not until they are here.

http://www.batmanagement.com/batcentral/... That's a great site with some very useful information. The bat houses they sell are top notch.
I build my own based on the largest one they sell. The larger the house the better as bats are colony animals and feel best when surrounded by others.
If you have bats in your area it can take a couple years to get them into the nest box, or it can take as little as a couple weeks. It all depends on the bats, food source, water source, etc. and the positioning of your bat house.
I have 4 houses on my property and approximately 1,200 bats. I harvest the guano they drop and add it to my compost pile to keep their area clear. I haven't had any problem with bugs for years now because of these little treasures!
TinFoil, or any shiny objects
Actually the lights they don't need. If you have masquitos they will come. I notice they swoop down at the mosquitos in my yard where there aren't any lights. I never see them in front where the street lights are.
Well that's a question you don't hear very often.
Lights won't help, but reflective surfaces for their 'radar' might.
Basically though, I think you're going to need to build the bat house first. It seems as though it's a "if you build it they will come" situation.

build the houses, they will come..it only takes a short time, paint it black for heat, bats like it warm.
Putting up bat houses is necessary to attract them. They are looking for somewhere to nest. Read this to learn more:

Why would you wants bats to come to your yard?
I bought one and put it up a year ago facing South just as they said. Was supposed to take 3 years for anybody to move in but to my delight, there's 3 living there now as far as I can tell-looking up during the day you can see them but they huddle together.
Before we had actually looked up in the house we had commented how the bugs were really good this year, I normally get all bit up fast but not this year at all unless I walk into the woods behind the house. It was really thrilling once we started thinking about it and realized it had been great so far, then when we saw them living there, it all made sense. I am planning on buying at least 3 more this summer and more next year. I got mine through Audubon but the library has books on how to build if you are good with that kind of thing.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I have, greatest thing since OFF!
