Help Robin problem!!?
Question:i have a strawberry patch and i noticed the Robins are eating them..i also have cucumber and pepper...would they eat the plants? this is the second time i've had to plant them...first time they disappeared...how do i keep my garden Robin free?
Answers:
Several things: You can always go
with a scarecrow.
Depending on the size of your patch,
put up posts (or 2x4's) and tie 3 or 4
pie tins on them.(# 1 choice)
& NO the birds WILL NOT eat any of
your plants (cucumber and/or pepper)
I have about 1&1/2 gallons of fresh picked
strawberries on my table now.
This SHOULD help you,Good Luck...
There is no way to keep the robins out of the whole garden, but you could use a netting cage around your soft fruits and vegetables to protect them from all birds... bamboo canes and 'bird netting' around all sides is cheap and the holes between the netting will still allow insects through to pollinate.
Bird netting can be easily bought from garden centres and online :-)
David?
Is that true? And if so would it work with fox poo as well?
You obviously mean the American Robin, the British Robin is a darling. Fruit netting is the best solution, suspended over the strawberry bed.
try getting some fox pee... It is used to keep pests away... I don't know how it'll work on birds, but cats will run the other way fast.
