My home was hit by katrina and still can't get grass to grow where FEMA trailer was. HELP?

Question:Where back in our house, FEMA trailer is gone and we're having the hardest time getting the grass to grow back in that area. We've tried just about everything . Need suggestions. Please HELP!

Answers:
Hi, I'm sorry you had to go through the worst hurricane in history and happy your making a comeback. I think the reason you can't grow grass there is due to the sludge and other debris that collected there when the Levey's broke, not to mention the salt from the ocean. And with having the Fema trailer in that one particular spot left the soil to become compacted from people constantly marching across it. It doesn't have any air to breath . Get some Gypsum and work it into the soil along with some grow mulch. That might not help it to grow this season, because the Gypsum needs time to break up the soil. But it should be fine next spring. Sorry again ,Bye and good luck.

Congratulations on being back in your home. Maybe the soil is just too compacted where the trailer was. Try rototiling and adding some soil amendments and then replant or sod the area. You've been through enough!
The most likely problem is compaction. Rent a tiller and till it to about 6 inches. While your at it add some compost or fertilizer before you till. Then re-seed, or sod. But keep it watered
