My asparagus seems to be going immediately to seed (no non-seeding spears) - why is this?

Question:Could it be caused by warm weather or the plant's needing something it isn't getting? it is not putting out any stalks I can eat - even the new, tiny ones are seeding right away.

Answers:
Mine is doing the same thing! My bed is in it's 2nd year, I planted 10 male plants and only 5 have come up, immediately going to seed. I planted mine in a raised bed with compost. I live in zone 4. I think getting your soil checked might help, I've also heard that using canning salt on the plants before they come up in the Spring is helpful.

How old is the asparagus bed? It can take a couple of years to get asparagus that you can eat.
Holla. asparagus is a early spring, cold weather crop, if you had a hot spell it probably triggered the plant to seed out before maturing, what zone are you in and how has the weather been?
