I want flowers for this fall?

Question:id like to have pretty fall time flowers is there a certain kind i should be planting now to have them by fall?

Answers:
Around September pansies and violas should be available for purchase. Not sure what zone you're in, but here in NC zone 7 they will bloom fall until spring. I've even knocked snow off of the blooms! Just remember to fertilize them when you plant them, and put them in a sunny area. Most people remove them in the spring to put in summer annuals, but you can leave them, they'll go dormant when it gets hot, and usually either come back or re-seed and you'll have them for the next fall. Mums are great for fall bloom, but they only bloom for about 2-3 weeks.

hearty mums -- beautiful fall flower
Many homeowners think that a fall flower planting must be limited to hardy flowers -- plants that will survive the first frost. Such hardy plants are, indeed, useful. Plant chrysanthemum flowers, ornamental kales, flowering cabbages and dusty miller, all of which will provide the landscape with color well after frosty weather arrives. But don't be afraid to mix in some tender annuals, too. Their contribution will be brief, but spectacular.

Marigolds are a good example, because they bloom in the classic fall colors: orange, yellow, gold, etc. The two most common groups of marigolds are the French marigolds (Tagetes patula) and the African marigolds (Tagetes erecta).
Hardy mums are the best fall flowers. They are very easy to care for and need little attention. You can even cut them back after they wilt, and they will come back next year.
Mums, Autumn Joy Sedum, most annual summer plants, stay hearty til the first frost.zinnias, all types of daisies, etc. go to a greenhouse and check it out.
