What is a safe, non-toxic pesticide to use around companion cats?

Question:Something is eating the foliage on my sunflowers, and I don't know how safely to eradicate the pests. Suggestions, please. Thanks...

Answers:
You could try mashing garlic, onion, chives or other really pungent herbs into cold water, leaving for a few hours then spraying this onto the plants. These are all natural insecticides which work well against aphids and other pests.

I saw a few the other day, at Lowes and Orchard supply, can not remeber the names right off hand, some places are now also carrying benificial insects
Pyrethrins are fairly safe around pets. Look for a pesticide with an active ingredient that ends in -thrin. these are naturally occuring or manufactured chemicals based on chemistry found in chrysanthemums.
