Yes, and you can trim them back often. If you trim them back ater each bloom you will encourage moe. You want to cut them back to just above a set of 5 healthy leaves. You can also cut back and eliminate any branches growing toward the ceter of the bush. Roses are extremely resilliant. In winter you can cut them practically all the way to the ground and they will come back beautiful. Roses also like to be fed through the leaf system as well, so you can actually spray the entire plant when feeding. I use miracle grow and I have beautiful roses that were practically dead when I moved in due to lack of pruning and care.
