How can I get rid of woodchucks?

Question:They are a pair who burrowed out dirt from large rocks in my garden, and have made their home there. The result is my neighbors patio pavers are falling inward because they have burrowed that far in.I have tried a humane cage but no results. What bait should I use.I already tried salad fixings with no results other than the chipmonks love it.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I use a live trap. I bait it with the cut off bases from leaf lettuce that I bring home from out restaurant. I usually put two of the cut-offs inside the trap beyond the tripping mechanism and one just inside the trap and one just outside the trap to lead them inside. I just got rid of the sixth one this season this evening.

I usually take them several miles away and drop them in the park or in a local industrial park. I could also call our city wildlife person and he will come and pick it up, but then he would just kill it. I'm not a tree hugger, but I do believe in live and let live, just as long as the woodchuck isn't living in my back yard.

Cat poo. If you don't have a cat explain to a friend who does that you need some of their cats' poo to scare the woodchucks away. Place the cat waste in the hole or as close as possible. Cat are natural predators of the woodchuck and the poor things don't want to be eaten, so they usually move.
How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood!

I would set metal traps with fruits veggies and some (wood) lol
they will always be back! I don't think you can get rid of them in a humane way!
The only way I have found is to use a 22. They can really be destructive and I have heard stories that their burros have caused the death of live stock and injuries from tractor tipping accidents through out the years. We have cats around our farm and the wood chucks don't seem to mind. The wood chucks we have are bigger than any domestic cats I've ever seen. (Maybe exotic cat poo, like from lions and tigers, would cause them to move?)

As far as bait for a hav a heart trap, use things like carrots and apples. More substantial than lettuce. Set the trap for three days, adding new bait as required, without actually setting it. You're making the chucks think it's safe to eat inside the trap. On the fourth day, set the trap to close when the chuck goes to have a snack. You'll probably catch only one, but it's a start.
They do raise at least one litter a year, so your problem is going to get worse if you don't take action.
