Has anyone tried dry farming tomatoes in Southern California? Specially San Fernando Valley?

Any concept of DRY with tomatoes is fraught with disappointment, frustration, and wasted $$$ as tomatoes are NOT a crop that can be "dry farmed". Tomatoes are water loving plants . . . without a regularly frequent irrigation your tomatoe crop will be a disaster. Even infrequent irrigation will cause the fruit to split. Dry farming is related to the grains.
