Mint is indestructible. You must spray (i.e., Roundup) and dig, wait a month, then spay and dig again. And again. And again... If you leave a small fragment of root, it's baaaack! I love mint, but I plant it in its own restricted bed. Away from all the other beds!

You can indeed rid your garden of mint, but it takes at least one growing season, so you will probably not be able to plant your lantana this year. Even after you have completely cleared your bed, you will see little mint sprigs coming up. Uproot them. Keep uprooting them. Eventually you will be mint-free, but it may literally take years.

kill it! spray it with roundup!

OK.. here's the thing.. IF you can dig up EVERY sprig and root of mint, it won't come back.. but it WILL come back if you miss even one piece of root.. roundup (glysophate) will kill the plant and the root..
Dig under the roots (without damaging them) and take the plant and separate each little group and plant them in rows where u want them so they have space!! ^^dig deeper and soften the dirt and put the lantana plant the place u need then u know the rest right??

Good luck !!
Mint will continue until it takes all the space. I would grow mint in a large pot, but not in the ground unless that is all I wanted was mint. The best way to get it all out, is to dig it up and toss it away.
You do realize that you want to destroy an edible invasive plant to replace it with another invasive plant?
The best way to get rid of it is to dig it all up.
Then make a bunch of tea or give the mint to your friends or local garden club.
Then plant your lantana.
do you have a bomb? it seems like once you plant mint you cant get rid of it good luck!
Why on Earth would you want to kill your mint plants?? Sounds like you need to start drinking mojitos, my friend. Cheers!
the only way to stop it growing is to make sure all the roots are out of the soil. So it's a case of dig, dig, dig.

A little advice for you if you decide to grow mint again, grow the mint in a container, that way you can contain the growth.
