The tree in my front yard is dying, and will take down power lines when it falls.?

Question:Can I call my power company and tell them to cut it down, or do I have to wait until it actually falls over?

The tree is on my property (barely).

Answers:
First, call your town highway department. Find out if it is their policy to cut trees that present road hazards. In my town, the highway dept. cuts trees hat are "sidewalk" trees or within 25 feet of the center of the road. I had a tree that was dying and could have fallen across the road. The town split the cost with me since it was in their best interest to have it cut, but did not fall under their guidelines. If they don't do it you can try the power company.

I would definitly call and talk to them about it.
Call and tell them they may just cut it down below the wires but thats easier than bringing it down all the way
Call the power company they will probably take it down for you if there is any chance it could fall on their line.
If you own the property then you own the tree and it is your responsibility to take care of it even if it means having it cut down. Sometimes the power company will clear the limbs around the lines, but any damage that tree does to property or power lines you will be responsible for the cost of the damages and your insurance will not cover it.
You can always go to http://www.1800topsoil.com to see if they have a local pro servicing your area. They're national.
We had a similar problem. If the tree is on your property line but it has the power lines in the branches and very close to the trunk of the tree the power company has to cut it down. If it is not really surrounded by the power lines but will fall on them if it goes down it is your responsiblity to call a tree surgion to come and cut it down for you. It can be expensive so I would start getting estimates now. We had to fight with our power company to remove the tree... chances are this is an expense you are going to have to take care of.
Call them, they will cot it down for free. ~
Saves them the trouble of fixing the lines later.
well ... if its in you property then its your responsibility But if if isnt then the city has to do it... there might be a problem if it is touching your property try your best to make it seem llike its not on your property like putting a cheap small fence abut 5 inches tall around your yard and dont include the tree in it... talk to the city thou
