Fish pond help?

Question:We just dug our fish pond beside this huge rock that would make a great water fall type thing. The rock is on one side of the pond. I have never had a fish pond before. How do i put the liner on the rock? There is no way i can put it under and if i put it over, the rock would be pointless. We have to use the rock. Its beautiful and to big to move. Any suggestions? Is there any way we can glue the liner or get it to stick to the rock somehow?

Answers:
Use aquarium sealer or butyl rubber sealer (the stuff they use to glue pond liners together) to glue the pond liner to the face of the rock. Clean the rock off really well before you do it and use it generously to get a good seal.

Do not use regular caulking that you get from the hardware store. This will result in a fish holocaust (the voice of experience).

You also might consider a double layer of mortar. Put one good layer down first at the base of the rock to get a smooth transition, lay the liner into it while it's still wet, then put another layer of mortar down on top, blending that onto the rock over the liner. Use a high mix of cement to sand to get more of a plastic consistency to the mortar.

There are also fish-safe rubber or epoxy paint products available that you can put over whatever seams you end up with. I've used rubber paint before with good results.

oops
Hi there!

I understand that, I think you should carry on with the liner on other sides and use some kind of water resistant material to glue the gap, i hope there wont be any leakages.

try this might help you in future: http://makemyhome.blogspot.com/2007/05/a...

Good luck
I am working on a fish pond with liner. I put rocks on top of the liner and use plastic cement to hold the rocks. Plastic cement shouldn't let water pass though.
The ratio is 1 part plastic cement and 3 parts of sand. You can add color too. You can trim the liner around the rock and use plastic cement to seal the gap.
I had the very same problem 4 yrs. ago and used the spray foam in a can (it sticks to anything and everything). The extra that oozes out between rock and the liner can be easily trimmed with a serrated knife, it will age quickly to blend with the surroundings, or you could faux paint it for instant gratification. After a year something moved a little and I had to re-foam but A-OK since.
