My newly seed lawn wont stay alive..Any lawn pro's out there?
Question:I layed down some topsoil and raked in the seed and then it comes up green. Soon after it begins to thin out and dye. I need help..

All I can say is Patch Perfect!
It's a lawn seed with special fertilizer around it, and it grows to look better then sod.
Put the topsoil, rack the seed, put some hay over it, then water everyday.
You should have a green lawn in no time. Patch Perfects a bit pricey, but if you want a great lawn it's worth it.

Don't add weed and feed. They make fertilizer for lawns that are newly seeded. Once you seed the yard, you will need to keep the soil at an even and constant moisture, at least as much as possible. Check with Home Depot or Levy's and see if they have a landscape fabric that has straw already sewn in to hold the moisture. Once the grass starts growing through the straw, then you can lift the fabric off and the grass justs slides out from underneath it. Some state road crews use this type of system to help them grow grass on the side roadways.

If you take them a soil sample they will run a battery of test on it for a nominal fee. They are also an excellent source for information on best types of grass to grow in your area. Explain you situation to them, they should be able to help.
My guess is you have too much fertilizer or some other chemical. If you used a product to kill your previous lawn or weeds, check the bottle, it should say how long you have to wait before re-planting.
Gather the information from your extension service and try again this fall.
