Care of my "Good Luck Plant"?

Question:I just purchased a "Good Luck Plant" (the twisted bamboo look-alike plant) for my office and I don't know how to care for it.

I have read conflicting instructions online on whether I should transfer it into a pot with potting soil. And whether I should use fertilizer, or if I should only water it with filtered water, etc. Will I need to trim it as it grows? Will it grow? Do I need to leave the gold twistie tie on it? Can I replace the twistie tie with something more aesthetic? If I do put it into potting soil (currently it is in a small vase filled with rocks and standing water), how often should I water it? Does it need direct sunlight, or just indirect natural light?

I think it would be bad karma for a good luck plant to die on me. And I really like this one because it has some fake orchids winding in with it and it looks very pretty.

I am trying to adhere my office decor to feng shui standards.

those that I've had need indirect light, water that has no floride or chlorine in it (tips burn).. they'll do fine in just water for a good long time if given a few drops of liquid fertilizer when the water is changed... and the water needs changed about monthly. if a stem goes yellow, get it out or the whole bunch will die. upon potting it, it becomes like any other plant... water when dry, water thoroughly, then let it dry out again... too much water when in soil will cause the stem to weaken and droop.. and it's a shade plant when outside.it likes just a little bright light, no direct sun.
