Why are my Portugal laurels turning an unhealthy-looking yellow color?

First, it depends on where you are located. North? South? Coastal? Mid-West? Not all plants are meant to grow in all places.
Second, where are they turning yellow? If it is on the inside near the trunk, that is common as older leaves will turn yellow and fall off as new growth appears. If it is on the outside, there is a tree funeral in your near future.

Third, what is your soil type? This will affect how much to water, mulching, etc.
