Do you need to treat a redwood trellis, polyeuathane or leave as is?

Question:It will be in strong sunlight, hot and dry AZ summer weather.

Answers:
Redwood will 'weather', so if you wanted to retain the color you would need to treat it, otherwise let it grey naturally (it does not rot like pine, etc).

I would use tung oil on something like that as it will look more true to life or 'natural'. You would want to retreat it every few years.

Redwood is the most resilient wood there is but if you want a certain "look" then treating it won't hurt.
You really shouldn't treat them. You can if you want, but remember one thing,Don't seal all the edges. Redwood HAS to be able to breath. If it can't ,your looking to replace them because they will warp, crack, split. Red wood needs to breath! So, seal if you must, but don't seal completely, OK? Bye
Redwood has a long life due to the large amount of natural oils in the wood. You may paint or stain, but leaving it natural will allow it to weather to a gray patina. Poly tends to flake off the surface, so you might be better with a water-based paint if you need to paint it.
That is your choice, be careful what you use because of planting that might grow on them.
Redwood is naturally resistant to decay and insects. I would not treat it.
