I accidentataillly pruned my moms old rose bush and wacked off some new growth. Can I replant these branches?
Question:I was pruning my mom's old fashioned? rose bushes and cut off a lot of new growth. A LOT. :( I mistook them for raspberry bushes.
I was wondering how I can take those shoots and replant them. I've got them in water now. They range from about 3 feet to 1 foot in length - I've taken the flowers off, but some have buds.
I read that root powder is the way to go, but I don't have any handy. The soil is pretty clay like and we live in Minnesota.
Any help Is greatly appreciated!
Answers:
No replanting wont do any good but, you can reroot them . Using rooting compound, remove top third of the leaves leaving on two five leafed leaves. Dip generously in the rooting compound and than insert them into a mix of potting soil and sand. Make holes in the mix and carefully insert the stems trying not to knock off the rooting compound. Make sure the mix is wet . Than cover with clear bag, and put a rubber band around it. In about a month it should show signs of growth, than when new leaves appear, you can trans plant it into the garden, you can do this from a cut rose from a florist also! Bye
you need to get some rooting hormone powder
go to you local garden center, home depot etc
when digging the hole to plant them, add compost and rose food to the soil
Try a rooting hormone. See link
