Get a bird feeder and fill it with seeds..
They'll eat that instead of your cherrries
scare them
pick them faster.
its called a gun
Scarecrows hooked up to a timer to make them move
hit them!
I'm serious when I say this. You'll have to use a big net. I had neighbors in Michigan who had the best black cherries. They would have to put a big net over their trees (they had a bunch) to keep the birds out.
You can get cheap netting to put over it. It won't harm the tree, but birds can't get through. That's what cherry farmers do.
Tie a pie pan in the tree, where it will dangle.
Spray poisen on the cherries so they die when they eat them and birds won't come back!
umm...not too sure..maybe put a wire over your tree or purchase a specific cloth you can get in a gardening area at a store that will keep bugs, animals, or birds off of it...that's all ive got...sry
Aww leave the poor birdies alone! Let em have the cherrys!
Beat the birds to it!
Go to Home Depot or some such store and buy bird netting. I had to get that for my plum tree. You will need help and a couple of ladders. Put the netting over the tree and the birds can't reach the fruit.
Put ascarecrow. It might help.
Get a BB gun and shoot the birds away or kill them and the birds will learn not to eat the cherries or you could put poison in the cherries and all of the birds in your area would die but again those ideas are illegal.
use aluminum pie plates. the kind that you buy the pre made crust in at the store. you can also use plastic plates... just tie them to the tree or if you tree is not tall yet you can tie them to a poles around the tree. these will move around in the wind and make a lot of noise... realy it works. if all else fails just take a rubber snake like the ones you buy in a toy stor that look real and put those in the tree. the birds will see them and stay away.. far away. last but not least you can use a fake owl the same way.
There is a netting that can be purchased, at a garden supply, outlet specifically for that purpose.
Put a net over it. You can buy nets for cherry trees from catalogues, or you can just buy some 'nylon netting' from a fabric store and 'sew it' into a piece big enough to fit 'around' the leaves and cherries ... just use 'fishing line' and 'string it through both sides' of the net, rather than really sewing it. I've grown cherries myself, and a net was the ONLY way I kept 'all of the cherries' for my harvest. Your best 'other alternative' is to buy your fresh cherries, and enjoy your 'bird sanctuary and restaurant tree' ...
I asked my great grandma the same question a few years ago because the birds were eating my cherries before I could...she was an old rancher-farmer and her immediate response was you shot one bird and hang it up in the tree; when the other birds come they will be so busy mourning the dead bird that you get your bucket and pick like heck! We also started using old Cd's and hanging them from the tree branches; the birds don't like the bright reflecting glare.
Chop it off - I mean down
