How do you remove shrub stumps and roots that are sticking up 4 to 5 inches above ground without heavy equip?

Question:There are a bunch together - I have tried burning them out, but they are still so green. There is about 30 - 50 stubs sticking up after I cut them down with a chainsaw.

Answers:
Excavate the area about 5" below grade around the roots, connect a sturdy chain to the roots and the other end of the chain to your car or truck, then SLOWLY drive away- that should do it.

Dig down into the ground around the and then cut them off below ground level either with the chain saw or an axe. Be careful not to cut into the ground or any rock with the chainsaw.
i use a recipricating saw with a 12' limb cutting blade.dig around root ball a ways to get below grade,a few times around with saw at an angle and you should be able to pop it out.
