Anyone ever raise crocus sativus for saffron? How did it go?

Question:I hear they like sandy soil? do you just pick the stamens and dry them somewhere to use later?

Answers:
I tried to grow saffron, but I didn't have a bit of luck. It was like I never even put it in the ground. They do like the soil loamy and plenty of light. As for harvesting, you do just pluck out the stamens and let them dry. I wish you luck.

you would need thousands of crocus plants for just a little bit of saffron. just pluck em and dry them...
