Plants that will grow in dry shade are hostas, astilbe, pulmonaria, some ferns, azaleas, hydrangeas, begonia, impatients. You can actually have a prettier garden in shade, because there are a lot more colorful plants and bushes than people usually think. Most of these you will have to water often for the first two weeks, until they get established. All of them in the list above, except for begonia, and impatients are perennials. After the first year, you hardly have to worry about them, and they just keep coming back. You didn't say what growing zone you are in. All of these except the pulmonaria will grow anywhere. Oh, I thought of some more,... caladiums.

Hostas, coleus, impatians and begonias, ferns. All are easy to grow and do well in patially shaded areas. Planting a mixture of them will give you a lovely combination ofcolorful flowers and interesting foilage. You should take the time to water them on a regular basis, once every three days or so during dry spells to keep them fresh and healthy.
I would recommend Hostas. They come in numerous varieties and are great for shaded or partly shaded areas. ( some don't do bad in sunny spots either). They get thicker each year as they spread out and can be very easily divided to add to other areas.
Naturally HOSTAS are a good choice. Bleeding Hearts- Aguga(a ground cover) -Ferns--Rodadendrom---Certain Fountain Grasses(for shade).
Hosta, Bleeding Hearts and Lilly of the Vally make great
plants for dry shady areas all of these have beautiful foliage
and flowers.
Ruscus. Also Known as "Butcher's Broom". It grows best in the shade and takes little to regular amounts of water.
Hosta's, impatients, ect.- prefure lots of water.
You could also use some Astilbe...very pretty plant with feathery plumes in red, pink, white. They come in a variety of sizes. One of my favorites and is doing well in mostly shade to partly sunny.
Try dead nettle ,i dont' know what area you live in ,but it grows well in part shade dry areas or you could try daylilies
You have gotten good suggestions but I would like to add: Lamimum It is a beautiful low growing ground cover that has a silvery green hue on the leaves and gets small pretty pink or white flowers resembling snap dragons. I have Hostas planted with this as a surrounding ground cover.Fills in really nice and accents the hostas ( and helps with weeds). It looks great!
