What does your backyard look like?
Question:What does it have?
Answers:
My backyard has a huge hill beyond a flat grassy area. I've built a path of steps with rock and mulch, which meanders up through the trees and open spaces. Since I'm about 2.5 hours north of Toronto, I'm happily on the Canadian Shield, so the hill has lent itself to be a natural rock garden. I've planted mostly drought tolerant native species, along with lot's of daylilies, sedum, junipers and bulbs such as daffs and alliums.
Right now, the trilliums are blooming, and the trout lilies have just finished. The forget me nots are all surrounding the pathways with a lovely blue colour.
I love my garden.
Ask me about my front yard!
In England we never use the word `yard`, it is almost always `garden`. My garden is solid with plants, borders, hedges, and walls, no room to fit in anything other than a few annuals. Clematis, Roses, Daphne, Lilies, countless bulbs and perennials, Campsis, rare climbers, fruit trees, Alpines, Dianthus, and many small obscure plants.Although we do not have the climate of many of the US states, English gardens do have amazing variety, we all have Nurserymen, or Garden Centres fairly nearby, Gardening is PRIME TIME TV in the UK, and fabulous gardens are everywhere. In general, if it grows, you can find it in England.
