Queen palm problems?

Question:I recently planted some queen palms about 1 year ago, they got hit with a bad frost this last winter that burned the frons, so I cut them. This summer the frons are shooting back out again but they are turning yellow, I dont know if maybe I am watering them too much or not enough. I give them about 5 gallons of water every other day, and fertilize them once a month with palm magic granules.

Answers:
To help maintain their health the queens should be fertilized three to four times a year with a special palm fertilizer.

It is normal for the lowest fronds to turn brown, this process is called senescence. If the newest growth on the palms are showing yellow the the nutrient deficiency could be either manganese or iron. An overall yellowing is probably caused by a nitrogen deficiency. Yellowing of the lower fronds
can be caused by potassium or magnesium dificiency.

You may be watering too frequently which can cause a nutrient deficiency.

If the symptoms appear to be severe, treatment is not a homeowner project. In that case I recommend a Certified Arborist be called in for an appraisal and a course of treatment.

Good luck

sounds like you are over watering them. water once a week - it you have not had rain. if it has rained, don't water!
i would probably mix a weak solution of fert when it begins to rain and then pour it around he base of the palms while it is still raining...and i would do so every couple of months.
hope this helps.
