How can I perk up a lemon tree in a very bad state?

Question:Here are it's syptoms:

- Seems to have stunted growth (not sure how old it is though)
- Has a dense spread of branches that have not seemed to grow out
- Currently has 2 fruit - one looks like a shrivelled, blackened kiwi fruit and the other is the size of a baseball and a very sick looking brown colour
- Leaves and branches appear normal
- Growing in good soil with shade in the morning and sun in the atfernoon

What is wrong with my tree? Should I cut it right back? If so, how do I go about it?

Thanks

Answers:
a lemon tree requires good drainage, cut inside branches crossing over or rubbing against each other, so as air can circulate freely thru the tree. give it a citrus feed. if u spread iron filings around base of tree & or knock a large nail into the base of the trunk, it will do wonders good luck

follow the link below and check this stuff out! my trees and shrubs have never looked better! won't effect fruit either!
They don't like lime. Never water with tap water always use rain water. Allow to dry out.
Citrus will skip fruiting for time to time. If you have a freeze when it is in bloom, the blooms may have been damaged, and fell off.(you didn't say what state you are in. Lemons have a hard time even in North Florida.)Thous not producing fruit.

All citrus prefer sandy, well drained soil, and full sun all day long. Keep grass, flowers, and mulch from under the canopy of the tree. As these things will make the tree more likely to develop Foot Rot disease. (Peeling, and bleeding of the bark usually at the base of the trunk, but can be up in the branches as well.)

The small kiwi looking lemon is from last years crop. The base ball size one sounds like it has rust mites on the peel. They are superficial, and don't harm the fruit. Most citrus in the stores are dyed to hide this damage.

I use 16- 4- 8 w/ a micro package that includes manganese, and iron in the spring and then again in the fall. Or just buy a citrus fertilizer. Remove all the fruit when they are fully ripe.. Don't let the rot on the tree. As they will take energy from next years crop.
