What should I do about a dove in my hanging plant?

Question:I have a hanging plant on my balcony. A dove has taken up residence in the plant. Scared me to peices when I looked out the window and saw a little head and a pair of eyes peering at me from the center of the plant.
I really don't mind except I will need to water the plant at some point. I don't have the time to sit around monitoring when the dove will be there. Frankly, I'm a little afraid of it. Do you think she is nesting?
What can I do?

Answers:
yes she is nesting.
Dove is a symbol of Peace.
I suggest WAIT
Please wait for a month or so.
When the dove nesting period will over then U can put some Broken Bottle glass in the soil of the hanging Pot. or barbwire it.
You won't face any nesting problem in future.
And do not get scared doves are the most harmless. The poor Living thing must be hell of scared from you.
Cheers and Please smile and take some pictures

Most likely the Dove is nesting. You will obviously see eggs (2) when the nest is vacated. Would you rather not watch a Dove rearing young, than staring at a plant ? They are harmless birds, do not fear them .
Yes, she is nesting. Not much you can do, unless you want her to abandon her nest. The good news is that doves nest for a very short time. The babies will hatch and fly away in so short a time you will be amazed. I encourage you to sit back and enjoy the show.
You can get a long piece of plastic tubing like the kind used in fish tanks. Attach a small funnel to one end of the tubing. Attach the other end to a small piece of sponge. When the bird is out to lunch, bury the sponge end in the pot. Three to four feet away, suspend the other end above the height level of the sponge end. Voila, you now have an irrigation system designed to leave the bird undisturbed. So now you dont have to feel guilty about causing the dove to abandon its nest whenever you water its home.
Isn't it amazing? I had the same thing happen this spring, a momma bird decided to turn my hanging basket into her nest. I couldn't kick her out of her home, because she was pregnant, and those little eggs were so cute! I checked on them every day and they're all happy now. I took the nest down after they flew away, and I'm keeping it in my garden. What magic is this? It's the magic of life, and it's a blessing to be here.

Good luck,

Trilli
I would let it stay there for as long as it wants to. It is a sign of peace. In these days and times, we all could use some peace. You have it right outside your balcony.

I am pretty sure that you could place a small funnel into the soil and water it that way if you really needed to. But for right now..I would let it hang around a while.
