Without knowing the type of turf you have and not being able to see the type of damage, it's somewhat difficult to diagnose and determine the problem that is making your lawn turn brown. Since you mentioned that your turf was very green recently and suddenly began to turn brown, is a good indication that it might be due to a fungal problem.
Whenever temperatures become high and humidity increases, lawns become more susceptible to diseases. Especially when night temperatures continue to remain higher than 68 degrees.
These temps will provide the best conditions for "pythium" root rot, "fusarium" and another fungal disease called "rhizoctonia brown patch" to become quickly established. Constant watering will provide the best means for these diseases to spread throughout your turf. Also, if you've fertilized recently, the lawn becomes a bit more susceptible to infection.
I would strongly recommend withholding any further nitrogen applications and begin irrigating your lawn just once early in the morning.
To control rhizoconia and fusarium, apply a general granular turf fungicide (called "Bayer's Advance Turf Fungicide) that can be found at most hardware stores. Apply and irrigate after.
Since the previously mentioned fungicide DOES NOT control pythium, you'll have to look at the back of other fungicides that will control this disease. A good product that treats pythium is called "Agri-Fos", which is made by Monterey Garden Products.
Avoid mowing the lawn when the grass is wet.to prevent further spread of the disease.
Hope this information helps solve your problem. Good luck!

you should probably water it
green paint will work
water it it may have lawn bettle
only water it early in the morning or later in the day when its not hot..
One of the reasons that lawns die, is lack of moisture and air getting to root system.Get a garden fork or sharp object and put a series of holes down through the grass.Do this all over the lawn. Now only water lawn at sundown,or even leave hose on all night. It will help. Good Luck!
LOL - almost all of Australia has brown lawn due to water restrictions...
Try watering it only early morning or late in the evening (or it will burn more); don't water it more than once a day, or it could drown. And you could always reseed over the patch with a more sun tolerant grass when it looks like you might get a few overcast days.
Throw some iron celate on it,but you'll need to water heavy for three days after application.(mow it first)
Get a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen (the 1st number of the 3 on the package), or most stores have a summer formula for fertilizer. Also, different varieties of grass are more stable in various conditions. Meaning there's grass that's best for limited sunlight, some that endures lower/higher temp's. Unless, you burnt the grass with fertilizer to begin, the higher nitrogen will help.
the grass should be watered regularly for it to turn green again
