What shade perennials can withstand high wind area in Michigan?

Question:I'm planning a perennial garden on the east side of my house, there are no trees or shrubs to shield plants from wind, I live in zone five and wondering if anyone knows of any hardy shade plants that can withstand high winds, Thanks!

Answers:
creeping phlox, hosta, tiger lily, day lily, tulips and daffodils

I would start with a decorative windbreak, even if it's a nice little solid fence. This should also break the snow and protect in winter. Add an evergreen or two (do not plant too close to the house) and build on that thought. I would go with all native plants, they will have a definite success rate as they are native to your region. Don't gather them in the wild, you will have garden centers that will have supplies for you.
many hosta will work but if you live in the county deer love to eat them. good luck
