I'm with you. I hate the flies in summer time.
But I just found out, by accident, an excellent way to take care of indoor fly problems. I had bought a small venus flytrap plant for my daughters to watch. I had one when I was a kid and wanted them to see the amazing work it does. Well, after a couple of weeks of having the plant and summer settling in, I realized that I didn't have much of a fly problem in the house. Our little plant has been very busy in catching those pesky critters that fly around. And best yet? No sprays, no nasty smelling poison, and no splattered fly guts from using a fly-swatter!
I am now looking to buy several of the plants for friends and family, and an extra for myself. I included one link to look for these neat plants yourself or you can search yahoo for "Venus Fly Plants"
One other solution for outside pests - Last year I bought a couple of these bagged fly traps last summer at walmart or some such place. You add a little bit of water and then hang them outside (well away from any living space since they smell to high heaven of rotting...something). We had little trouble with flies outside last summer.

You can get a racquet type fly killer with a battery and when you swipe at the fly it burns to death on impact. Damn good!!! You will be a professional tennis player by the time the summer (WHEN IT COMES!!!) is over!! ;o)

I know... when they're in your house they can take forever to get rid of!! There's a trick I use. Flies usually are looking for a way out. That's why you see them around windows. Turn out the lights in the room and they will go towards the light from the window or door. Then just open it and they will fly right out. Beats chasing them around all day with a swater and spray.
