If you cut up a sprouting onion and potato..?

Question:if u cut up an onion and potato and plant if in the ground ywould it grow.scientific reasons plz!! ts for my sis's science project.ty

Answers:
Onions are grown from"sets" and if you cut it up it won't grow.
Potatoes on the other hand sprout from the eyes of the tuber and you can cut them into quarters and they will grow.
