Why do my oriental poppies go limp when i cut them to bring them into the house as cut stems?

Question:

Answers:
When you cut poppies for arrangements, you must seal the cut stem immediately. The best way to do this is to touch the cut stem to a flame, either from a match or a lighter. I just take a lighter with me and burn the stem end as I cut. Place them in cool, not cold, water as soon as you get them indoors. Poppies and most other flowers should be cut early in the morning for best results as cut flowers. Hope this helps.
