My dog uprooted my butterfly bush, will it recover?
Question:My dog did it right in front of me and was obviously trying to get my attention (she got it). So, I replanted it right away and watered it, but only a short time, like 30 minutes, passed and it is looking droopy. Will it recover or should I replace it? It was just starting to shoot up and has about 3 bloom spikes on it.
Answers:
try soaking it if its small .. i would soak it in a container for at least thirty Min's then plant it back and mulch it nice and thick there pretty tuff it should recover make sure threres plenty of root on it .. fertilize it in a couple of days OK with liquid
The whole plant? Most of the root system was killed and the plant can't take up water. If you could give the plant some shade..erect a shade cover just over the top, leave the sides open..keep it watered and mulched...and maybe cut it back a bit.....it might pull through. Coming into the heat of the summer doesn't help at all. I'd forget about flowers this year. Butterfly bushes can be quite hardy, I hope your's makes it.
Re-pot it in a container. This will help reestablish the root system. Leave it there for a couple of weeks. When you replant it in the ground, surround the base with chicken wire to keep the dog from re-digging.
I'll bet she did! bad dog!
sorry, i don't have any advice for you, but if it gets going, o you get a new one, try and keep her away from it--chicken wire works.
Plant a lot of your dog's feces in the hole. I've seen this help stop the digging plus it feeds the plant. As far as the plant goes how long has it been in place? The more years it has been in place the less help it will need now. If a lot of roots were destroyed and the plant is not established then you may need to cut some of its foliage back. This way the surviving roots will have less plant to supply.
