I agree with certain points made in the video, although I would question some of the statistics. There are a lot of resources extended in keeping lawns perfect and green. On the other hand, there are a lot of resources extended growing gardens, especially in areas where conditions are marginal. Just because you are growing something other than grass doesn't necessarily justify this. Very few people have the space available to grow all of their families vegetables for a year, so the net economic benefit of small gardens in most cases is very small.
However, the benefit of gardening cannot and should not be measured in solely economic benefits. Gardening for most people is a hobby that brings them enjoyment, exercise, knowledge and pride. Whether it's a productive vegetable garden, a beautiful bed of flowers, or a perfect lawn.
We have planted vegetables in our front yard as part of our landscaping and never had any problems, but we don't live in a development that might have rules as to what can be planted in a front yard.

I cant see why people continue to buy all their food products, when so many of the vegetables can be grown.
