Can I put slate or pavers over a septic tank location?
Question:In my yard the grass is not greener over the spetic tank. Maybe the tank was not buried deep enough, but grass does not grow there. I would like to get those big, flat pieces of stone (limestone or slate?) and put them over that area. Will that affect the functioning of the tank? I realize they would have to be moved if I should ever have to have the tank pumped. Please advise and thanks!

It shouldn't affect the tank. you have drain lines that move water away from the tank to be absorbed into the ground. Kinda odd that grass doesn't grow on top though.
not a good idea as this area will always be soft from water and possible discharge. you could have sink holes one day and pavers or slate would drop. Consider another covering.
yes no worries on putting the slat or such there as long as you know they will have to be moved if so but it might be that it is not deep enough so your yard drys out faster on shallower dirt if you know what i mean but if it's not wet all the time there no worries ok i wouldn't make it a big deal so it wont be a big deal later if it has to be taken back up if your just putting slat down with nothing uner it but dirt it is going to give some what at times maybe but don't put pavers there to much work for not a solid area ok remember dont make a big deal out of it just put flat flag stone down on top of dirt ok that's all so you can take it up when need be
I partially agree with Wayne with the exception that the area over the septic tank should NOT be wet, if it is it indicates a leaking or over filled tank. the area over the leach field can become wet due to constant drainage from system, but too much can indicate an over charged system that is not working properly. I'd be satisfied if the area was dry and wouldn't worry about placing stones or pavers as long as you know you may have to remove them at sometime
The grass isn't growing because you have a vapor leak. Your tank may not be air tight and the fumes are killing everything. Have the tank pumped out and make sure everthing is sealed up tight.
