When Growing Cucumbers Do You Rope, Stake Or just Let Run Free?

Question:

Answers:
According to my dad who has grown them for years; for limited space use a trellis otherwise let them run free.

My mother inlaw grows the best in the world and she just lets them run "free"! Works with zucchini, too! YUM!
i think it depends on the type. We had ours climb a rope. My husband bent the top of conduit and had the rope hanging down form the top. they grew beautifully
Run Free
Either way works
When I was a small child, my grandparents lived w/ us for awhile and my grandfather always had a garden w/ a variety of veggies and he always let them grow free.
I let them run free. But to keep weeds down I put newspaper on the ground with a little straw or mulch over it. Some varieties can be trained up a piece of fencing. Use a wide mesh wire fencing, not chicken wire, something a little stronger.
This year I've put mine inside tomatoe cages. They'll grow up a trellis but I had left over cages. I'm curious, I've always let them roam free. You don't have to tie them or stake them, they do it themselves.
