I planted cilantro a couple of months ago?

Question:It was fine for a couple of weeks, with nice leaves, but then it got tall with flowers and small unuseable leaves. How could I have prevented that?

Answers:
That just happens when the plant flowers, then it will go to seed. To keep this from happening and keep the plant usable for eating, trim the plan back by 1/3 to 1/2, depending how tall it got. Cilantro, like other herbs, benefit from regular pruning, to keep it in top shape for use in recipes.

It sounds like its not getting enough sun
give it more sun soil and a little more water (don't drown it)
The plant has bolted and is trying to do what it needs to do to assure survival of the species, produce seeds.

Cilantro, the leaves of the coriander plant will start producing seeds if you don't keep it trimmed by using the leaves. If your plants produce more than you can use, you can try pinching off the flowers when you see them starting. You can also try planting coriander every week or so, so that you always have a supply of plants that are ready to use.
