What all BULB flowers would be good for planting NOW in New York area please?
Question:THanks, right now, I've planted tiger lilies, dahlia's, and glads as far as bulbs
what else would bloom by august?
Answers:
Why not go to your local garden center? They can answer questions, and supply what you want.
You can't plant bulbs this time of year, they get planted in the fall before the ground freezes, then they bloom in the spring.
I've been told that you can "trick" bulbs by putting them in the fridge for a week or so, then planting them. I've been told that they will bloom right away because they think that it's spring.
I'm not sure this works, but I've been told it does.
Good luck
According to this article:
http://ezinearticles.com/?a-look-at-fall...
"Fall flower bulbs are planted in the spring or summer and flower in the early fall. Some examples are lilacs, colchicums, and saffron crocuses. ... Most fall flower bulbs cannot survive the winter. These have to be dug up each fall and stored until planting time. "
And here's an article specifically on the colchicums:

If it doesn't have to be a bulb though, daylilies can be planted now and will bloom by August:
