What is the best way to keep raccoons from eating corn in the garden?

I have been battling the same problem. I found something that works though. Buy some cow bells and then take fishing line and run it around the perimeter of your corn about 4 inches off the ground. Tie the cow bells to the fishing line at several points around the corn patch. When the coons bump the wire, the cow bells ring and scare them off. You can also put a motion sensor driveway light out in the garden facing the corn. When the coons walk in front of the sensor, the light comes on and scares them away. It works for both kinds of coons.in case you have some of the human kind in your neighborhood too.

Get a chicken wire fence and put it around your plants. Also you might want dig up some dirt and put it up around the chicken wire fence.
Try placing whirly-gigs or something similar to make noise.

A shotgun is also an effect method of controlling varmints.
grind up some cayenne pepper real fine ,sprinkle on your corn they will leave it alone
Shoot them, trap them or put up an electrified fence. We stopped growing corn for that reason. Shooting inside our city limits is illegal (plus we have no guns), traps don't work
well, and the expense of the electrified fence was greater than the benefit of the garden. The darn critters would take a bite or two from every ear of corn!
I would try what Steve said. Raccoons hate red pepper. Once they get a noseful or mouthful of hot pepper they probably won't return. They're smart animals and remember places where they've had unpleasant experiences and will generally avoid them in the future. If that doesn't work try building a fence. It has to be a pretty secure one because they are excellent climbers. I've heard of farmer's keeping raccoons out of their cornfields by putting radios out there at night. Some people have sprinkled predator urine such as coyote or wolf in the area. There is a device called a "Scarecrow". You put it out there and hook a hose up to it. When it detects motion it makes a loud sound and squirts blasts of water. This should scare the raccoons away. It can be a challenge keeping them away because they are quite persistent.
