How do I preserve a carnation?

Question:

Answers:
Treat the flower with 20 Mule Team Borax. In a container with a lid, completely submerge the flower in Borax power. In 7 to 10 days your flower will be preserved. Here's a link with better directions:

hang it upside down until completely dry. the you can put it in a glass jar or stand it in a vase
You can use silica gel. It is the stuff that comes in the little packets when you buy shoes to keep moisture out. Of course it would take forever to collect that many little packs. So you can find it in bulk powder form at your local craft store. You completely cover the flower with the silica gel powder and cover in a box with a lid for a few days. It preserves the flower and the color of the flower is just like it was when fresh.
After its completely dried out, really dry, gently spray it with clear lacquer a few times. Spray as far away as possible so the force of the spray doesn't cause any petals to fall off. Leaves and stem too.
