Why do you make mounds for zucchini pants and cucumber plants?

Question:

Answers:
These plants and other members of the squash family have large and fast-growing root systems that require plenty of water. This method allows room for the roots to expand easily and quickly while allowing water to easily percolate down to the roots.

Mounds allow for better watering and help the stem of the plant keep strong... also don't plant cuc's and Zuc's close to each other... they turn out some nasty tasting stuff and it's rumored to be toxic.
