How do I plant grass seed on an already established lawn?
Question:I have a cute little yard in my back and just had automatic underground sprinklers put in and they destroyed sections of the grass. Can I repair it with seed? If so, how?
Answers:
Step 1- Rake the areas you plan on planting seed to loosen the soil (1/4 inch depth)
Step 2- Place some Scotts TurfBuilder Seeding Soil in the areas you plan on repairing, this soil has starter fertilizer in it already and a wetting agent to reduce watering requirements.
Step 3-Choose a grass seed that will perform well in your backyard(sun mix, shade mix, sun/shade mix, etc.)
Step 4- Apply seed with a spreader to ensure it is put down at a consistent rate.
Step 5- Water.Water...Water
Step 6- depending on the grass seed you choose, germination should take place within 7-10 days.
I hope this helps!
yes just plant the little seeds real close together and water very very well and if they are good seeds at all they will take root and grow very quickly i just planted some for my cat to eat and play with etc and they really took off fast just dont plant them down real deep only plant them down about half a inch thats all they need to really grow -- and if you plant them down any farther than that then will have a hard time growing and coming up -- plant quite a few where ever they are needed at don't be stingy with putting a lot of them close together every where they are needed they should sprout in a bout a week and then really take off - good luck
